New year, new call for Whatua tū aka Full Proposal applications

Matariki is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and plan for the future. Today, the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative (TLRI) Advisory Board announced a new call for Full Proposal applications to the Whatua tū aka pathway.

The TLRI funds research projects that aim to improve outcomes for learners. Today’s announcement reflects the TLRI Advisory Board’s commitment to improving equity for Māori learners by supporting kaupapa Māori educational research and building kaupapa Māori research capability. If you have an idea for a project that could improve equity for Māori learners, please apply.

Examples of current Whatua tū aka projects are:

• Kōtuia te mātauranga marautanga reo Māori: a project exploring how the social and academic language proficiency of students shapes their academic success.

• A Māori Modern Learning Environment: a project investigating the ways that two Māori-medium pathways (bilingual and immersion) work together in a flexible learning space to progress te reo Māori and the aspirations of whānau.

• Mātai Mokopuna: a project exploring how whānau and kaiako give expression to the developing mana of mokopuna through the dimensions of hinengaro, wairua, tinana and whatumanawa.

Full Proposal applications to the Whatua tū aka pathway are due by 5pm, Thursday 26 August 2021. Applications are invited in either te reo Māori or English. Further information and guidance about how to submit a Full Proposal application to the TLRI’s Whatua tū aka pathway can be found here. 

Please note that this call for Full Proposals is not for the Open Pathway where shortlisting has already taken place.

Hei whakaata te whakapuaki o tēnei rā i te ngākau ū o te Poari Kaitohutohu a TLRI kia whakapikia te whiwhinga ōrite mō ngā ākonga mā te tautoko i ngā rangahau mātauranga kaupapa Māori, me te whakapakari i ngā pūmanawa rangahau kaupapa Māori. • Kōtuia te mātauranga marautanga reo Māori: he kaupapa tūhura i te āhua o te tārei o te matatau ā-pāpori, ā-reo mātauranga o te ākonga i tōna ekenga taumata mātauranga.

• He Horopaki Ako Māori mō te Ao Hou: he kaupapa e tūhura ana i ngā huarahi e mahi tahi ai ngā huarahi arareo Māori (te reo-rua me te rumaki) i tētahi taiwhanga ako tāwariwari kia kawe whakamua i te reo Māori me ngā moemoeā o te whānau.

• Te Mātai Mokopuna: he kaupapa tūhura he pēhea te whakaahua a te whānau me te kaiako i te whakamana mokopuna, mā te ao o te hinengaro, o te wairua, o te tinana, me te whatumanawa.

Me tae mai ngā Puka Tono mō te ara o Whatua tū aka i mua i te 5pm, Tāite/Rāpare 26 Ākuhata/Hereturikōkā 2021. E pōwhiritia ana ngā tono i te reo Māori, i te reo Pākehā rānei. Ka kitea ētahi atu mōhiotanga, aratohu hoki me pēhea te tāpae Puka Tono ki te ara Whatua tū aka o TLRI ki konei.
